Android M was just announced on the Google I/O and there’s a lot of different changes and features though many of them are not so major. Android M can be taken as an update to Android L. However, here are some top 5 best Android M features that should be mentioned.
5. App Permissions:
Whenever you download any app from the play store you need to accept bunch of different permissions right now no matter you agree or not. But with the Android M you need not to provide any permissions in fact now they are a lot more granular now as you can actually select which one you want to allow and which one you want to deny which indeed gives more control to the user. Now the application can request you the permission when they're necessary like Whatsapp asking for microphone and twitter asking for your camera feature.
4. App Linking:
Now with the app linking feature you're going avoid the annoying pop ups asking you if you want to open the link in Chrome, Facebook, Twitter or any other application featuring the link. So with the Android M the link is intelligently analyzed and appropriate application is opened. Example: if you click an external link in Facebook or whatever application the link actually open up the Chrome tab in the application itself without opening the Chrome app separately.
3. Doze:
Google has been working hard to maintain battery life and with the Android M this trend is continued with the feature named Doze. Now with Doze it is possible keep your device in much deeper state of sleep to improve the standby time and this is achieved by using built-in sensors of the device. In addition there is less background app refreshing though high priority notifications like alarms and chat notification will still come through.
2. Android Pay:
Android Pay is basically Google’s answer to Apple pay. This feature works best with the device having built in fingerprint sensor and running Android M. With this feature you'll be able to use your fingerprint to authenticate the transaction. It’s pretty safe to assume that most of the new devices running Android M are going to have built-in fingerprint sensor. Google is also working with many financial institutions to make sure you can use any debit card of your choice and over 700,000 stores in the US will be compatible with Android pay. Android pay also have tie up with NFC so you can use Android pay wherever there is a Android Pay or NFC logo.
