There are plenty of different new ports out there that you might have seen HDMI, display port, thunderbolt, lightning, to name some of them and all these ports are pioneered by different manufactures because they all have different purposes. For example Thunderbolt designed by Intel to attach peripherals to a computer, Lightning is designed by Apple for charging and connect low power accessories like iPhones, iPad and seemingly out of nowhere we get this USB Type-C. It seems like another new port but the key to USB C is the ‘U’ in it which stands for Universal and can be used by anyone, it is not proprietary and that’s why pretty much every Android Phone you see out there has some kind of USB port on it.
USB C is basically USB 3.1, we all have probably seen computer with USB 2.0 ports those are everywhere and over the past couple of years we’ve seen more and more these USB 3.0 ports which are super speed one with identical blue color. Now looking at USB 3.1 and a smaller type C connector the port so that’s why it’s called USB type C. USB 2.0 and 3.0 come in the form of full size USB, but also micro and mini and other versions are available. USB 3.1 is just the one tiny port so you’ve it in laptops, computers, tablets smartphones, and monitors almost everything can use this tiny port.
How USB 3.1 Type C better than USB 2.0 or 3.0? Number one, it is smaller and thinner so it can fit in the thinnest of the thin devices along with all the thick normal size one. Number two, it is super versatile and carry up to a hundred watts of power so you can charge a full-size electronics and it can carry data upto 10 Gigabits per second which is a super high data transfer rate and sufficient enough to run a 4K monitor or a super-fast SSD. Number three, it is backward compatible with USB 3.0 and 2.0 and it is reversible so you can plug it in the right way the first time every single time. So USB C and its reversible glory is great in everything but where are we going to see this, is it going to be popular in future? Yes, it is going to be everywhere though new MacBook might be one of first to use USB C but it will definitely not be the only one. Not only Apple and Google but other manufactures like Samsung, Motorola, Nokia are also adopting USB Type C and soon we’ll see USB C in every smartphones, laptops, computers, etc. and that may be the reasons for plenty of adapters out in the market for your aid.
USB C is definitely another big thing in the field of USB ports. This is indeed a simple and powerful way to solve some basic problems of using different charges for different devices and slow data transfer from one device to another. Hope USB C holds good and work effectively for our betterment.
